The app and this website are separate

The PinyinNotes app stores your personal notes, flashcards, and review progress on your device. The app has no account. This website is a public library. Copying a note into the app does not send that note back to the website. The website only adds 1 to a public count of how many times Copy note was pressed.

What the website stores

If you request an account, we store:

  • Your name, email address, and the reason you gave
  • A scrambled password we cannot read back, after you choose one
  • Notes you save or submit, including their review status
  • A login cookie that keeps you signed in

Browsing approved notes does not require an account. Pressing Copy note adds 1 to that note's public copy count. We do not store who copied it, and we do not run other analytics or ads.

Who can see a note

Drafts, notes waiting for review, and notes sent back for changes are visible to you and to an admin. Approved notes are public, including your display name. Your email is shown to admins during review and is not placed on the public note.

Your choices

You can delete a note from its edit page, or delete the whole account from the Contribute page. Deleting the account removes the notes you wrote. It does not remove copies other people already pasted into the app.
